Michael in a few words

Je suis diplômé en informatique (Spécialité Fouilles de Données) à l'Université des technologies de Compiègne (UTC) en France et j'ai également étudié à l'Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) en Suisse.

J'ai parcouru diverses sociétés : DxO (France), Kitware (États-Unis), OZWE (Suisse), Visimmo3D (France), ComputaMaps (Afrique du Sud) et Factory 11 (France). Pendant la majeure partie de mes missions, j'ai joué avec des visualisations, du traitement de l’images, de la 3D, de l’intelligence artificielle et de l’open-source.

Chez Kitware (un leader des solutions scientifiques open source), j'ai pu participer à la beauté des sciences ouvertes avec le développement de bibliothèques open source telles que VTK, Slicer 3D ou encore MSVTK, un outil de visualisation spatio-temporel, multi-échelles et interactif pour les données biomédicales.

Aujourd'hui je travail sur un projet personnel : Hurna.io. Un projet d'éducation solidaire basée sur la visualisation interactive afin de pouvoir partager les sciences au plus grand nombre.

H.urna is building a place where people can learn, teach and communicate visually about science.

The purpose of H.urna is to deliver science insights to everyone. It aims a wide range of fields such as informatics, mathematics, physics, electronics etc. Basically, anywhere there is code, equations or symbols that need understanding.

The main idea is that everyone can learn anything and that everything may be learnt. Visualization leverages the human visual system to augment human intellect: we can use it to better understand abstract processes and discover many other things.

As a freelance I made occasional improvements and audits few years ago before being hired to work back on the project leaved out by previous IT services compagnies.

Alongside improvements, debugging and feature redefinitions, my work has included:
Auditing the current plateform from back to front, proposing and improving the architecture
Implementing a Git WorkFlow
Implementing a Coding Style / Best Practices development / Code Quality tools
Implementing a Wiki/Documentations website for developpers
Handling project management tools with remote coworkers

A consequent refactoring of the back-end on both the general architecture and code logic have been processed in an iterative way. Several important optimizations have been made both resulting in a way better user experience, stable plateform, simplified development/deployment process, simplified and reduced code.

I also have the occasion to play with WebSockets as well as WebRTC by developing features such as dynamic message boxes, chat rooms, audio/video calls...

Working in the DxO Framework team developing the core DxO libraries used by the other DxO application's teams. C++ and cross-platform development, I implement new image processing features and enhance code quality, testing procedures and architecture of the current framework. Its main goal is to provide a unified and cross-platform access to the base image correction algorithms along with many utility classes for dealing with Images, Exif, Color Spaces, Collections, threading...

Development of a new open-source library: MSVTK for an interactive multiscale spatiotemporale visualization of biomedical data. That framework should make it possible to interconnect predictive models that span the full range of relevant spatial and temporal scales, with diverse methods operating at varying levels of detail, into systemic networks that enable the discovery and evaluation of multi-system hypotheses (e.g. public releases Picking Manager, ECG, LOD, Human Body Interaction).
I have also taken part in the development of the VTK/TubeTK libraries and 3D Slicer project.

Analysis and design real time Space Planning software using Unity 3D. Working as a freelance (during inter-school period) with a manager, a designer and an intern; we got outstanding results within a very short time while having a very modular structure. The project has been the base of most of the other commercial products for simulation and space planning.

Analysis and design software to extract and reconstruct buildings 3D from airborne Lidar surveys. I
proposed and develop new processes to automatically segment and construct a 3D model of a city or an area from point clouds (without additional information as GIS) while no scientific algorithm were established by the community.
