About Md Golam

I build coupled 1D–2D hydrodynamic models for urban flood risk assessment, with a focus on tropical and monsoon-driven flood events in rapidly urbanising catchments.
Currently contracted as hydrodynamic modelling specialist for a 34 km² urban flood study in Hanoi (Vietnam), using the 3Di/Rana platform with calibration against Sentinel-1 SAR flood extents from Typhoon Bualoi and Typhoon Yagi. The model targets CSI ≥ 0.60 against independent SAR-derived inundation maps.
My technical stack: HEC-RAS 2D, 3Di/Rana, SNAP for SAR processing (Otsu thresholding), Python (rasterio, netCDF4, pandas, scikit-learn), QGIS, GR4H rainfall–runoff calibration, IMERG and ERA5-Land satellite precipitation.
Previous work includes GR4H model calibration using Sobol sensitivity analysis (CEREMA Île-de-France), LiDAR-based DEM of Difference analysis for Loire river morphodynamics (manuscript under review, MDPI Hydrology), and IDF analysis for Paris-Montsouris station.
I am open to freelance hydrodynamic modelling contracts and PhD positions in flood modelling, urban hydrology, or data-driven hydraulics — based in Paris, available remotely across Europe.

Experience

  • Tecotec technology JSC
    Hydrodynamic Modelling Specialist (Freelance)
    March 2026 - Today (3 months)
    Hanoi, Vietnam
    – Developing a coupled 1D–2D hydrodynamic flood model for a 33 km² urban pilot area in Hanoi using the Rana/3Di platform. – Calibrating the model against Typhoon Bualoi using Sentinel-1 SAR-derived flood extents; targeting CSI ≥ 0.6 and SI ≥ 0.65. – End-to-end project delivery: DEM & bathymetry processing, drainage network digitisation, mesh optimisation, parameter calibration, independent validation, and full reproducibility documentation. – Model output feeds directly into a routing engine identifying safest road paths during flood events; prototype designed for future scaling to larger Hanoi areas.
    Python GIS 3Di
  • WAK Group (Remote-freelance)
    Hydrologist / Modelling Engineer
    November 2024 - December 2025 (1 year and 1 month)
    – Built Python pipelines (pandas, numpy, matplotlib) to clean, process and visualise hydrometeorological time series, reducing manual processing time by ~60%.
    – Supported hydrological model calibration and validation using performance metrics (NSE, KGE); documented model uncertainty for client reporting.
    – Produced technical reports and interactive dashboards to communicate flood risk results to non-technical decision-makers.
    – Produced hydraulic hazard maps in QGIS combining modelled water depths and velocities with land use data.
  • CEREMA Île-de-France
    MSc Research Intern
    March 2024 - August 2024 (5 months)
    Trappes, France
    – Reconstructed sub hourly rainfall–runoff time series from Paris IDF curves to create reference datasets for analysis.
    – Developed and calibrated GR4H conceptual hydrological models; simulated extreme rainfall events.
