AUTHENTO – Embedded ECG-Based Biometric Authentication for Secure Vehicle Access

Development of an embedded biometric authentication system based on ECG signals for secure vehicle access. Design and integration of an embedded solution on STM32H7 with AD8232 for ECG acquisition via the steering wheel.

Technical Development

Filtering and preprocessing of ECG signals with extraction of P, QRS, and T waves. Driver authentication and intoxication detection using an embedded CNN deployed with STM32Cube.AI, optimized for real-time execution. Identity management with secure storage and comparison of biometric signatures (embeddings) on an external SD card.

Security & Performance

Fast authentication (~2 seconds) with low power consumption. Vehicle start authorization or denial with alert signaling in case of alcohol detection, addressing automotive safety constraints.

Design, Validation & Lean Six Sigma Approach

System testing and validation through ADC integration. Collection of simulated and anonymized ECG data and offline CNN training. Application of a Lean Six Sigma (DMAIC-inspired) approach to define requirements, analyze signal quality and model performance, optimize latency and memory footprint, and control system robustness through validation scenarios.

Project Management & Strategy

End-to-end management of the AUTHENTO project, from design to integration, with a value-driven and product-oriented vision. Definition of functional priorities and technological choices aligned with performance targets, industrial constraints, and use cases. Coordination with technical teams and internal clients, structured reporting, and presentation of deliverables to management, while applying Lean principles to reduce non-value-added iterations.
