I have over 25 years of commercial experience. Working in Australia the United Kingdom, and France across a diverse range of industries. Consultancies, Digital Agencies, London Underground, Hedge Fund, Stock Broker, Sports Gambling & Banking.

Most of my roles could probably be summarized as designing and implementing systems to collect, clean & normalize data from disparate sources in the fastest and most maintainable way possible.

I consider myself to be technology agnostic and have a ‘best tool for the job’ approach. This doesn’t mean always using the latest and greatest as some developers like to think, but assessing tech on functionality, maturity, cost, and the often-forgotten criteria of available developer talent pool.

I’m an advocate of the services approach to system design with a microservices and/or service bus approach. To reduce complexity, isolate risk, and help with scalability and contingency. In my experience, even the best-designed monolithic system can quickly become unmanageable as complexity increases.

I’ve been following the test-driven software design process for most of my career using unit tests, behavior-driven development, and integration testing. Although time-consuming, I also find code reviews great for knowledge sharing and quality control and a great way to help train junior developers.

I hold Australian and UK nationalities and have permanent carte de séjour to work in France.

My primary expertise is in backend systems design, however, I'm not so precious as to have never touched a UI and have used most web frameworks, winforms, wpf etc...
