Paul in a few words

DevOps/SRE with 4 years of field experience, both in building platforms and tools, and running them in production. I design tools and systems that enable developers to work in better conditions, and that are resilient and observable.

Lydia Solutions - Lydia

Banking & Insurance

Paris, France

October 2020 - Today (1 year and 1 month)

I have been at Lydia for almost a year. During this time, I participated in creating the new platform for Lydia's infrastructure. This platform is built on GCP and leverages Kubernetes for deploying scalable services faster than before.

We implemented tools to help developers become autonomous in creating, configuring, releasing, and monitoring applications to this platform, and evangelized those tools to the different teams.

Technologies used at Lydia :
- Cloud : GCP
- Orchestrator : Kubernetes
- Monitoring : ELK, Prometheus, Grafana
- Provisioning : Terraform
- Config management : Chef
- CI/CD : Jenkins, Github Actions, Bitbucket Pipelines
- Data sources : Big Query, ElasticSearch, MySQL, PostgreSQL
- Languages used by devs : Golang, Python, PHP

Working on a large scale b2c product, that has strong legal and compliance implications was a very interesting challenge.

Software Publishing

Paris, France

July 2017 - August 2020 (3 years and 1 month)

Mention is a software-as-a-service monitoring solution that primarily helps brands understand who their audience is and what's being said about them.

I spent 3 years at Mention. My first mission was to rebuild the CI/CD pipelines from the ground up, enabling developers to test all their modifications in disposable and dynamic staging environments. I also worked on managing the day to day infrastructure operations that a product like Mention implies.

I also took part in a vast effort to upgrade and better maintain our services across the board, and successfully checked a 50+ nodes, 100TB+ ElasticSearch cluster into configuration management (Ansible).

I then worked on creating the first Kubernetes cluster for Mention. Since we didn't use cloud services, I built it on bare metal machines using vxlan encapsulation for networking. This was quite a challenge but we ended up with a reproducible, usable, and maintainable Kubernetes cluster that ran on bare metal public machines.

Technologies used at Mention :
- Infra : OVH Bare metal and public cloud
- Orchestrator : Kubernetes
- Monitoring : ELK, Statsd, Grafana
- Config management : Ansible, Puppet
- Data sources : ElasticSearch, MySQL, Apache Kafka
- CI/CD : Jenkins, Github Actions
- Languages and technologies used by devs : Golang, Python, PHP, gRPC

Working on a product that has very strong requirements for data processing and storage was incredibly insightful and helped me develop a strong attention to service quality and error budgets.
